The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is an Android phablet, and came to public attention in August 2015, alongside the Galaxy S6 Edge+. The design was a bit of a departure from the previous Note models, with the hardware and the specifications being based upon the Galaxy S6. This device has a glass back and a metal frame, plus an integral stylus slot with a retaining spring. The display chosen for this device was the 1440p, 5.7 inches, but the major difference between the Note 5 and its predecessors is that it does not have expandable storage, or a user-replaceable battery.
Although well-received for having better build quality than previous models, the lack of user upgradability and battery replacement was seen as a downside, especially as the Note range had been targeted at the segment of the market that demanded power and performance. Other improvements that were hailed as positives by the critics include improvements to the overall performance, a better camera, and incorporation of a fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy Note 5 was replaced (briefly) in September 2016 by the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7, which was soon withdrawn from the marketplace due to overheated battery issues.
