About Galaxy S3

The Samsung Galaxy S3 was released by Samsung Electronics in 2012, and is a multi-touch slate format Android smartphone. A re-designed follow-on to the Galaxy S2, the S3 took 18 months to develop under conditions of great secrecy, and was received with critical acclaim on release. Some reviewers compared it favourably to the current version of the Apple iPhone, and it topped more than one ‘best of’ lists. Despite some problems in manufacturing, the Galaxy S3 achieved sales of around 70 million by 2015, even selling well after the launch of the Galaxy S4 in 2013.

Unlike the squarer profile of previous Galaxy models, the S3 has rounded corners and has a superb 4.8” HD Super AMOLED display. The display maximises the impact of the Home screen ‘Water Lux’ effect which is a mesmerising series of ‘water’ ripples produced by slides and taps on the glass. In fairly harsh tests, the S3 has proved to be pretty well waterproof, and resistant to scratches from a key, and much to the joy of users of power-hungry apps, it is fitted with a user-replaceable battery.
