About Galaxy S6

The Samsung Galaxy S6, along with the S6 Edge Android smartphones were revealed at the very first ‘Samsung Unpacked’ event, which was held by Samsung Electronics in March 2015. The devices were released for sale in 30 countries in August the same year, with the S6 being intended to replace the Galaxy S5. Instead of the plastic back on the S5, the S6 has a toughened glass back and a metal frame, making it feel higher quality in the hand, plus an improved camera, fingerprint scanner and display.

The Galaxy S6 also incorporates a mobile payment platform that involves the device mimicking a credit card magnetic strip, which generates an electromagnetic field, detected by the terminal. The build quality of the S6 was widely praised as being better than previous Galaxy smartphones, but the lack of expandable storage and non-user-replaceable battery met with disapproval, because these features of past Samsung phones have always been major selling points for power-hungry users. The S6 was also criticised for not retaining the waterproof capabilities of its predecessor the S5.
