About Galaxy S8+

Released in the UK in April 2017 after being revealed a month earlier, the Samsung Galaxy S8+ was an Android smartphone, and was the follow-up to the Galaxy S7 Edge. With a taller aspect ratio, a 6.2” screen and a back casing made of glass, the S8+ had other features which separated it from the earlier model. Changes included the option of a docking station which enabled the phone to operate with a keyboard and mouse like a personal computer, iris and face recognition, and ‘Bixby’ – a new virtual assistant.

The S8+ generated positive criticism from reviewers for its style and physical properties, and they also appreciated the quality of the camera, and the software improvements that had been incorporated. They were less positive about some aspects, such as the face recognition function, which it was discovered could be deceived by a picture of the owner’s face, although this was not a security issue as there were several other security features on the phone. The position of the fingerprint sensor was also an issue, as it was (unusually) on the back of the phone. The Galaxy S8+ in fact was a hit with the public, and like-for-like sales were more than 30% higher than the previous model.
