About Galaxy S8

The Samsung Galaxy S8 with the Galaxy S8+ were unveiled at the end of March 2017, and became available at the end of April 2017 in the UK. The S8 was the successor to the Galaxy S7, featuring design changes which included curved sides, a larger screen, glass back and an aspect ratio which was taller than the previous model. Other changes included the ability to use the phone with a docking station, keyboard and mouse like a PC, plus face and iris recognition ability, and a virtual assistant called Bixby.

The S8 was greeted with positive reactions from critics due to the physical appearance and form, plus improved software and a good camera (the camera was actually the same one used in the S7). However, ‘Bixby’ was not universally well-received, and there were adverse comments about having a fingerprint sensor at the back of the device. It was also reported that you could ‘fool’ the face recognition scanner with a picture of the user. Having said all that, the S8 sold over 30% more units than the S7 over a similar time period, so it must have gone down well with the buying public.
